Sandwich is one of the Cape’s most majestic places with its historic homes, beautiful scenery, the dunes of Sandy Neck and quaint historic center — here you will experience New England’s early history firsthand. Leading statesman, Daniel Webster liked to hunt and fish here in Colonial times. Sandwich village offers some interesting shops and quality restaurants.
Sandwich is the oldest town on Cape Cod, founded in 1637 by the Cape’s first permanent English settlers. Historic buildings include the 17th century Hoxie House, Wing Fort House, Eldred House (home of author/naturalist Thornton W Burgess) and Dexter Grist Mill (1654) – still grinding corn at the edge of serene Shawme Pond to this day. Sandwich is also famous for its distinctive hand-blown glassware.
